*HARMONICS IS ON PAUSE DURING THE PANDEMIC BUT WE'RE AIMING TO START UP AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER (WITH SOME FREE TASTER SESSIONS THROUGHOUT AUGUST) SO PLEASE APPLY FOR A SPACE IN THE MEANTIME*
Harmonics Glee Club is all about singing your heart out, gaining confidence, making new friends and having fun in a great environment where nobody will judge you or pick on you no matter what your vocal ability is! It's all about positivity and expressing yourself through music.
The gleeks currently range from 11-16 years old and are a very friendly, talented bunch with a unique sense of humour! Run by experienced (and slightly nutty) choir leader Kitty Heard and assisted by her husband Ross we sing hits from Broadway / cheesy old pop songs / current hits (thank you Tik Tok!) and anything else we happen to like.
There are no hidden fees. We know money is tight for everyone so we only charge £16 a month to attend weekly rehearsals, participate in our two big yearly concerts (Spring and Christmas) and perform in any extra performances we put on in-between. That's it!
Our emphasis is on positive attitude, commitment and a good sense of team-work, so everybody always feels very welcome when they come and try out. We don't ask anyone to audition, just join in for a free session and see if you like it. If you do then you fill out our membership form, pay up for the month and become an official Gleek, it's that simple.
We rehearse at the Town Hall (Trowbridge) at 6-7.15pm every Tuesday during term-time, so if you're interested, contact us so that we can book you in for your first session.
Note for Parents / Guardians (of the gleeks, not the galaxy):
Your involvement is as important as that of the young people in the group, so if you have any questions, comments or feedback, please feel you can come to us and let rip! Preferably in a nice way, if that’s ok…
The emphasis for us is to make sure the gleeks are enjoying taking part in the group, and not that they're just a nameless face in a crowd; some children stand out more than others because that’s the kind of character they have, but we never lose sight of the quieter members of the group. Everyone will get a chance to shine at some point in the year when they feel ready, even if they need a little extra coaching along the way. All we ask for is their commitment and enthusiasm.
One very important point to remember is that we do not want to accept gleeks who are only there because YOU want them to attend - that doesn't make for a positive environment and believe me, we can tell when someone doesn't really want to be there! So before you sign your child up, please make sure this is something THEY genuinely want to do.
There are no fees other than the £16 a month to go towards rent. That's it. Your support will therefore be greatly appreciated for any fund-raisers we put on, as well as your regular support in ferrying your offspring to and from rehearsals and of course, attending the concerts.
Please do support your child in letting us know if they’re not going to be at a rehearsal; we’re a team and if one member is missing it might impact the evening’s session more than you think!
So, I hope you’re prepared for a year of hearing the same pieces of music sung over and over again at home, and the pre-performance nerves (you’re lucky – when I was little I used to projectile vomit before the class nativity plays), and the awesome surge of pride you will get each time you see your child giving it their all on stage. I know I am!
